Al Mawakeb School – Al Garhoud

Al Mawakeb School is a private, K-12 school (3 to 18 years of age) located in Al Garhoud, Dubai. The school is one of two campuses located in Dubai (the other based in Barsha) managed by the Academia Management Solution International (AMSI).

Al Ittihad Private School (BR)

Al Ittihad Private School Jumeirah, established in 1988, is an Arabic speaking, private K-12 school highly popular with Emirati families located near Al Safa, Dubai. The school is home to almost 2000 students, 9 out of 10 of whom come from local families, from ages 3 (KG1) to 18 (Grade 12). In total 100 teachers are employed (almost all with appropriate teaching qualifications) giving the school a respectable teacher to student ratio.

Dubai Carmel School

Located in Al Nahda, Dubai Carmel is a private school providing education for boys and girls aged three to 16, from Kindergarten to Grade 10. There are currently 885 students (up 10% on last year) attending a school relatively popular among the local population – one in five of the student body is Emirati.

Al Diyafah High School

Al Diyafah High School, which has been operating since 1982, is located in Al Qusais / Al Ghusais. It serves a predominantly Indian expatriate demographic, but with 29 plus other nationalities also represented at the school. The school teaches the UK’s national curriculum, but “modified”, with International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations at Grade 10/11, and Advanced/Subsidiary Level examinations at the post-16 phase.

Al Mizhar American Academy School

Al Mizhar American Academy is owned by Taaleem Education. It was previously known as the American Academy for Girls and is located in Al Mizhar, very close to the border with Sharjah. The “for Girls” was dropped from the name two years ago, when the school started to admit younger male siblings of older female students into KG1 for KG1 and KG2 only. This was done as a service to existing parents. The boys move on, generally to other Taaleem schools, for Grade 1 onwards.

Uptown School

Uptown School, owned and managed by Taaleem, is an IB based, Mirdiff located school that currently takes children aged from 3 years of age to 15 (Foundation to Year 10). Grades 11 and 12 will be added in 2015/16.

Ambassador Kindergarten LLC

Ambassador Kindergarten in Dubai has now been inspected twice by the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau, the inspection arm of the KHDA, and for two consecutive years awarded an Acceptable rating. Given the KG opened in 2012, this is perhaps unsurprising, although the school should have a Good rating in its line of site.

GEMS World Academy

GEMS World Academy, Dubai is a private Pre K-12 international school located in Al Barsha, Dubai. The school was first established in September 2007 by GEMS Education and follows the IB curriculum. It currently has 1853 students (up quite sharply on 1500 pupils last year), and 172 teachers (up from 150 last year), giving it one of the better teacher to student ratios. All teachers have academic degrees; 84 per cent of them have a teaching qualification according to the KHDA.

Japanese School

Japanese School in Dubai is an embassy run non-profit school located in Jumeirah, Dubai and currently provides education from children aged 6 to 15. The school was established in April 1980 by the Dubai Consulate of Japan.

American School of Dubai

American School of Dubai, one of the oldest co-educational K-12 schools in Dubai, was originally owned by DPC and was then transferred to a not for profit foundation in 2004. It has consistently achieved a ‘Good’ rating from Dubai education regulator, the KHDA, the second highest grade, since inspections began.

The Winchester School

GEMS Education owned, UK curriculum based Winchester School, located in Jebel Ali, is home to 3,612 boys and girls, aged between three and 18 years. The single largest demographic is Indian, but the school had students from just under 90 different nations including those from Pakistan, Arab countries, Asian countries and The Philippines.

Dubai English Speaking School

Dubai English Speaking School is located in Oud Metha, near St Mary’s in ‘older’ Dubai. It teaches students from KG to Grade 6. It is one of the most established schools in the UAE, opening its doors in 1963 and was the first school to offer a British based curriculum – the school itself has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. A considerable milestone.

The School of Research Science

Don’t be confused by the name, The School of Research Science is not Dubai’s answer to MIT, but a Good rated UK curriculum K-12 school, adapted to local cultures, and with no particular emphasis on science or research. That said, its recent move to outstanding new premises in 2014, does give it a 21st century feel.

A relatively small school Lycée Libanais Francophone Privé, located in Al Muhaisnah, caters to 960 mainly Lebanese national boys and girls aged three to 17 years.

Horizons English School

Horizon school is a non-selective, private school in Dubai. It provides British curriculum education for international students aged between 3 and 11 years old from more than 47 countries. English is the language of communication throughout the school, and in lessons but many of our children have English as their second or third language.

Our Own English High School

Established in 1968, GEMS Our Own School is located in Al Warqa. It is a private school run by GEMs Education and currently has 9000 students on its register (up over 1200 places since last year), looked after by 420 teachers (up from 356 in 2011/12). The school has been on a new campus for just over one year.

Dubai British School (DBS) offers the English National Curriculum, and is open to students, girls and boys, aged from three to eighteen years of age (Foundation to Year 13). According to their latest audit it is currently home to 1,096 students aged from 3 to 18> The largest single nationality, as the name implies, is British, making up 66% of the current student population.

Delhi Private School

The Delhi Private School, Dubai, has been consistently ranked “Good” by the KHDA, the Dubai education regulator’s second highest award. It is a branch of Delhi Public School Society in New Delhi which is widely acknowledged to be one of the best schools in India. DPS now has around 140 schools around the world – including branches across the Emirates.

Deira International School is located in the new part of old Dubai – Festival City, and is currently home to just over 1,492 students (up 100 on last year and 300 on the last two academic years) from a mixed range of nationalities (over 80 in total), including a strong local presence (around 13% of the student body are Emirati).

GEMS Royal Dubai School

GEMS Royal Dubai School follows the English National Curriculum (offering FS and Key Stages 1 and 2), and has departments for Art, English/Literacy, Mathematics/Numeracy, Science, French (from Year 1 onwards), Arabic and Islamic Studies (from Year 1 onwards), ICT, Geography, History, Library, Social Studies, Music, Technology along with Physical Education (PE) and swimming.

Dubai College

Dubai College is located in the heart of new Dubai, in Al Sufouh, and set on nineteen acres of land. It uses the English National Curriculum, offering places to students from Year Seven (‘lower school’) up to Year Thirteen (‘Sixth Form’). Middle School students (Years Ten and Eleven) study ten GCSEs alongside a short course in ICT. Once students reach Sixth Form (provided they have achieved at least five B grades at GCSE), they will choose four subjects to study. Once they move up to Year Thirteen, students may drop one of their subjects.
